Roland Garros champions Kevin Krawietz/Andreas Mies are inching closer to winning another Grand Slam crown at the US Open. The No. 12 seeds reached the semi-finals on Tuesday over Leonardo Mayer/Joao Sousa 7-6(4), 6-4.
Krawietz/Mies scored the lone break of the match at 1-1 in the second set before advancing in one hour and 26 minutes. The German duo struggled after their breakthrough in Paris, posting a 2-8 record leading into the US Open, but have recaptured their top form in New York.
Awaiting them are eighth seeds Marcel Granollers/Horacio Zeballos, who prevailed with an identical 7-6(4), 6-4 scoreline over No. 16 seeds Oliver Marach/Jurgen Melzer. The Spanish-Argentine duo rallied from 2-4 in the second set. Granollers/Zeballos took the title last month at the Coupe Rogers (d. Haase/Koolhof), while Zeballos also picked up another ATP Masters 1000 crown earlier this March at the BNP Paribas Open with Nikola Mektic (d. Kubot/Melo).
